Smoothie Tips and Tricks

I am a huge smoothie lover, especially in the morning. It has helped me continue to lose weight (30 pounds down) without making me bored with what I am eating. Here are some tricks I have recently learned to help take them to the next level.

Tips

+ If your smoothie is coming out too thin and watery, check what form of ingredients you are using. If you use frozen with fresh fruit and a liquid base, it will make it runny. So pick one form to work with, and if anything, and small splashes of milk as you go blending.

+ Use a spoon or a blender tamper to help push the mixture around until the blender and cut through everything, especially when working with frozen fruit.

+ Check your blender’s recommendations on putting a particular product, for example; I can only put ice at the top before I blend. For some blenders, it might not matter.

Recipe

This is one of my favorite recipes to make! Here is what you are going to need:

Mint Chocolate Chip Smoothie ( serves 1-2)

-1 banana

-1 scoop of protein powder

-Handful of spinach

-Half of an avocado

-1 tbsp organic peanut butter

-4-5 ice cubes

-Splash of small almond milk (or whatever milk you prefer)

-Few drops of peppermint oil

-Handful of cocoa nibs

  1. Mix all except the peppermint oil and the cocoa nibs until blended

2. Then stop. Add a few drops; I would say like 5-6 if you don’t like peppermint, then add 1-2 and go from there. You could always reblend it and add a little more. But for me, I do, and I hardly taste it. It seems like the perfect amount.

3. Take the cocoa nibs and blend for a few more seconds. I usually mix it to it looks smooth. I don’t like my smooth to have a crunch texture, so I would rather it all be nicely blended.

I hope these help make your smoothies easier to make. I love to try new ones, so if you have any recipes, send them my way!
