What I am doing to keep “busy” at home

Bored in the house and I’m in the house bored …..

BORED

If that song isn’t stuck in my head a least a few times a week, then we for sure aren’t in quarantine anymore, right? Wishful thinking. Well, even though there are millions of these lists out there, I thought I would share what I want to tackle in the coming weeks / what is keeping me busy.

Call your friends and family- Realistically it’s hard to carve out the time usually to talk to someone on the phone. I love talking on the phone, especially when I go for a walk. But more importantly, since you probably aren’t seeing the people, you love hearing their voice helps you feel like they are actually there, and you aren’t alone.

Catch up on shows- I haven’t made a dent in this suggestion honestly. But I am working on it! If you need recommendations on what to watch, I have a Netflix post on the blog from November, which I linked here for you to read quickly!

Clean and re-organize your space- Since its springtime, we would be doing this one anyway, no? I have little by little been trying to clean out my room and figure out what I can donate, give away, and even sell. I recommend the Mari Condo method; it does work if you are looking to massive condense what you currently own.

Listen to a podcast- I am going to do a separate post on my favorite podcasts. But lately, I have preferred this over listening to music. It helps me focus on what I’m doing, and it is fun to hear what other people think about specific topics.

Read a book- I pretty much been a book worm my whole life except the last few years. Reading used to bring me a lot of joy, and it is one of my resolutions for this year. I am trying to read a book a month. It is another great way to keep your brain active.

Painting my room- If you follow me on social media, you have probably seen the worst color imaginable on my walls. Shoutout to 10-year-old Syd for thinking it was a specular idea. But I am looking into a more neutral tone, hopefully dramatically changing my space.

Practice a newer skill- This one probably won’t apply to everyone, but I am also trying to work on using photoshop more. For my job, I create many different marketing pieces throughout the year. And sometimes, my designs are limited because of the program. Learning photoshop can help me at work and for La Vida bajo el Sol.

Practicing Spanish– Holding for laughter… Yeap, I am serious. At my job, being bilingual is a necessity, but it doesn’t make my Spanish anywhere close to perfect. I can understand the majority of what is said in a day to day conversion. But when I try to speak it myself, I get a little lost trying to phase sentences and complete thoughts, which leads to a Spanglish kind of deal. Sometimes people assume I am not Hispanic and believe I probably can’t speak it. I have wanted to work on it for a while. So I am interested to see if during this time I can get it done. If you are looking to learn a new language or practice an old one, I would suggest using the app, Duo Lingo. I have been using it on and off with some other materials, and it’s easy to use.

Put together some playlists- I never do this, but I always feel awesome after I do. Recently I made one for my friend because she doesn’t like to have music take up space on her phone. You can create one for studying, working out, hanging out with friends, etc. Spotify, I think, is the most accessible platform you can even follow your friends and their public playlists.

Schedule a virtual happy hour– My best friend turned 27 last month, and she wanted to do a virtual happy hour, it was my first one ever, and it ended up being a huge hit. Zoom is great for group meetings, and to be honest, I prefer it over Facetime if the group is over three people.

Take an online class- A lot of universities are offering free courses during this time, being that I am not in school at the moment and am a nerd at heart. This is something I am going to be looking into Edx.org was recommended to me to try.

Workout- Before all this, I was working out about 4-5 times a week, at least, so I told myself this situation could not and will not affect that. I am not an expert, so I won’t say too much on this topic, but even if its 30 minutes, get up and get moving. It isn’t good for your body to be stationary for so long besides sleeping.

And that’s pretty much it! I hope you have found some inspiration for what to do at home during this uncertain time! Stay safe and healthy!
