DIY Bleach Tie Dye Set

This trend has been all over social media lately, even my guilty pleasure Tik Tok. I had tried on a set the other day but decided I wanted to make my own. Shoutout to the girl I saw at Target, I saw who told me she made this exact set at home. I purchased a sweatshirt and matching pants on Amazon, and the entire DIY cost me $16. Talk about a steal. Here is what you need if you want to try to make your own!

  • Sweatshirt and sweatpants
  • Bleach
  • Measuring cup
  • Rubberbands

Now, I decided before bleaching that I wanted my set to be a crop. This step is entirely optional, but I think it makes it extra cute! Plus, I live in Miami, so a full sweater would be away too hot.

Take the sweatshirt and pinch it in the middle, slowly turning the sweater until it is in the shape of a spiral. Then section it off into 6, which is three rubber bands. Bleach 3 out of the six sections and then turn it over and ALTERNATE the sections on the opposite side. That is the key to getting the right amount of bleach without overdoing it. I would put about 1/4 cup and dilute it with water for every two sections. But go slow and trust your instincts.

For the sweatpants, roll them up and tie a few rubber bands on each side when you get to the top section it off into 4. I will say that once I took off the bands, I realized the bottom had no bleach. So I retied more bands, which you can see below. I was a little freer with bleach on this one but used the same concept, try to alternate between the sections.

Give it about 10-20 minutes to set. ( I did this partly because of what happened with the bottom) And then they are ready for a cold rinse. Once you ring out the excess water, throw them in the wash and make sure it’s set to cold. Then put them in the dryer, and in about 2O minutes, they are ready to wear. I am super happy with how these turned out! If you try this trend, let me know how it goes!
