This is a review of Le Grand Verre wines. I just wanted to start by saying that I did receive these wines from the company to test out. Nevertheless, my opinion will never be influenced by whether the product was gifted or purchased. Moving on, for this review, I did something a little different and went to my friend Melissa’s house (shoutout to Mel) for her weekly wine night to get a group opinion on Le Grand Verre wines.
Le Grand Verre means” large glass,” and the concept behind the brand is that it is French Wine by the Glass. That’s right, I said by the glass, so this is perfect when you want a glass of wine but don’t want to open an entire bottle. Each box comes with four different wines, and you can choose based on what kind of wine you drink more. For me, white and rosΓ© are my favorites over red usually.
I was sent the Decadent Dessert set, which included:
- Sainte Marie RosΓ©
- Domaine des Trottières
- La Duchesse
- Clos Rousselly
La Duchesse: 4 out of 4 approved
CHENIN β CHARDONNAY | Loire Valley β France | 2018
-First up was La Duchesse. It had a strong smell but tastes light. It is more a fruity wine but overall was well-liked by the group.
Clos Rousselly: 4 out of 4 approved
SAUVIGNON BLANC | Loire Valley β France | 2018
-This wine was the all-time favorite wine of all four. It is light, fruity, and was described as perfect summertime wine.
Sainte Marie RosΓ©: 2 out of 4 approved
MERLOT | Bordeaux β France | 2018
-The Sainte Marie RosΓ© surprised me the most because usually I any rose, and I did not care for this one. It tasted too woody and strong to be a rosΓ©.
Domaine des Trottières: 0 out of 4 approved
CHENIN BLANC | Loire Valley β France | 2017
-For the last wine of the box all across the board, this was a no. It just did not do anything for the four reviewers. It was extremely bitter.
Overall thoughts: The packaging is a 10/10. They are plastic bottles, so they are safe to take to a party or gathering. Each wine comes with a card to describe the wine and its origins. Which I think is exceptional as most wines you find a store don’t have much information on the bottle. I think this makes a great gift and is just overall great if you want to try more different kinds of wine without the commitment of having to finish an entire bottle, especially if you are still learning what types of wines you like.
